Global pharmaceutical company, Boehringer Ingelheim, has launched a unified intranet called INSITE, built on Microsoft technologies, to over 50,000 staff. The solution has evolved over three phases, each involving comprehensive user research and a vision focused on DEX.

The intranet is maintained through a product management approach with regular releases and continuous improvement, all underpinned by continued user research. At the centre of the intranet experience is a personalised Viva Connections dashboard (now part of SharePoint) that integrates with multiple systems and helps employees complete tasks.

Other notable elements include personalised news, a comprehensive use of machine translation, robust content governance, and an integrated search. INSITE’s adoption metrics are strong with high usage.
