About my talk

This talk covers the case study of IKON, (Information and Knowledge ONline) a multi-award-winning implementation of SharePoint 2013 as a complete intranet solution in the Irish Defence Forces. The talk covers the academic research behind the project, senior leadership engagement, user adoption, change management, information architecture and enterprise social to name but a few of the topics covered by Major Barry Byrne, project and program lead for IKON. Key learning areas include:

About me

Major Barry Byrne is Chief Information and Knowledge Management Officer for the Irish Defence Forces, Headquartered in Dublin. He is also an adjunct assistant professor in the Computer Science Department of Trinity College Dublin.

Barry is leading an internationally acclaimed project developing policies, procedures and technological solutions to improve Information and Knowledge Management in the Irish Defence Forces. This project, which has created a new intranet for 9,500 users, grew out of years of academic and empirical research conducted for his master’s thesis. The technical platform, delivered through SharePoint 2013 provides full EDRMS capabilities, enterprise social, innovative knowledge management solutions, and has been recognised by international military and corporate organisations. The project team were recently awarded IT professionals of the year 2015 and European Knowledge Management Programme of the year 2015.

Barry has served in a variety of roles overseas with the United Nations; Logistics in Liberia in 2006, chief ICT officer in 2007 in Lebanon and civil-military coordination and operations officer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2011.
