SEFE Implementing a complex intranet at great speed
Newly formed, nationalised energy company, SEFE, needed to urgently launch a new intranet as part of a wider transformation program. The team undertook a highly ambitious project to design and create an intranet within 100 days, including multi-lingual content written from scratch.
Highlights from the project include an effective parallel workstream model for quick delivery, a robust but flexible approach to content governance, an innovative “content factory” to create content at speed and scale, and a framework to effectively launch a set of communities. It also included a tailored training and comms plan, and a thoughtful approach to the inclusion of multi-lingual content.
Overall the team have succeeded in launching a successful intranet, within the timescale and without compromising quality, helping support the wider transformation effort. Despite early days, the intranet already has strong levels of adoption.
Why this won a Silver award
- The delivery of such a potentially complex intranet within such a short time frame is very impressive.
- We love the content factory approach with the ability to deliver new content at scale and speed without sacrificing content purpose and value, while also navigating challenges around multi-lingual content.
- The use of Microsoft Planner to help coordinate content proved effective.
- There is a good balance between a more robust approach to governance, with a more flexible and lightweight approach, which can adapt as the company and intranet grow.
- This is a great collaborative effort, despite there being three organisations involved in this project.
- The community governance aspects of the project are both well-thought-through and executed.
- Given this is a new intranet, the levels of adoption are very good.
- The cost savings from sunsetting the the legacy intranets are substantial.
