Instead of out-sourcing the intranet to us, we work with your intranet team to provide the skills and knowledge needed to make the intranet a success. (We don't provide software development or implement software packages, we can however advise on the most appropriate technical solutions, such as content management systems.) Via this work, and our role in establishing the Intranet Peers in Government community of practice, we have seen many approaches to intranets in a diverse range of organisations. Our holistic approach encompasses the people, process and technology issues that confront the creation of an effective intranet. We are different from other consultancies, in that we don't focus on a single aspect (such as usability) of intranets. Instead, we consider the intranet to be a valuable business tool, and approach it accordingly. Instead, we work with organisations to address the more important strategic and information management aspects of intranets. The development (or redesign) of an intranet cannot be outsourced. The skills and knowledge must be retained within the intranet team, to ensure they are able to make the ongoing improvements needed to adapt the intranet to the ever-changing business environment. For this reason, we take a mentoring and coaching role on intranet projects. This involves skills-transfer of key techniques, as well as involving the intranet team throughout project activities. Our goal is to innovate intranet techniques and approaches, and to share this knowledge with intranet teams, to enable them to increase their skills and improve the effectiveness of their intranets.
