Intranets have been around for a very long time. How long have you been in the intranet space?
For Step Two, it’s been 20 years, as of 2016. So we held a party in Sydney, and had a great time. Many thanks to all our lovely friends, clients and staff (current and past) for making it a wonderful night.
Twenty years timeline
Over the years, we’ve worked hard to map the intranet landscape, and to support intranet teams around the globe.
This timeline gives a small sense of what we’ve done over the years:

The beginning
Step Two Designs is founded by James Robertson, as an XML software developer.
First Client
NRMA Insurance, to create a custom content management system for frontline staff.

First staff member
Stuart Allen is first staff member, hired as a programmer.

Second big client
Roads & Traffic Authority (RTA), to deliver frontline help to the Newcastle call centre.

First article published
Step Two publishes first article, titled “How to evaluate a CMS”.
Consulting business is born
Pivoted from being a software shop to a consulting firm.

Consulting team grows
Tina Calabria and Donna Spencer (Maurer) joins the team, supported by Kim Hunter.

First international speaking event
Presentation at Information Online in London.

First USA conference
Presenting at KMWorld 2005 in San Jose, California.

First Canadian conference
Intranet presentation at IA Summit 2008 in Vancouver.
Catherine joins the team
Catherine becomes a crucial member of the team. Step Two just wouldn’t be quite the same without her.

Creation of ILF
The Intranet Leadership Forum was founded, and soon became the quickest and easiest way to stay in touch with what is happening in the intranet world.
First IIA winners
Winners of first Intranet Innovation Awards.

First Danish conference
Presenting at IntraTeam event in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Brisbane office opens
Rebecca Rodgers opens the Step Two Brisbane office. The Brisbane chapter of the ILF was soon to follow.

Melbourne office opens
Amanda Broomhall joins the Step Two team, opening the Melbourne office.
Steve joins the team
Steve Byrne becomes part of the consulting team, based in the Sydney office.
