Two-day international workshop
Usability and information architecture (IA) have been recognised as best-practice techniques that ensure that your website, intranet or
application is both useful and usable.
This two-day workshop provides a thorough introduction to both techniques, offering both practical hands-on activities and the
underlying theory.
This first day will introduce you to usability testing, a technique that allows you to improve your systems and sites by regularly testing
them with the people who will be actually using them.
The second day introduces information architecture (IA), the primary tool used for organising and designing information-rich environments
such as websites and intranets in a way that allows people to find information easily.
Topics covered
Day 1:
- how to conduct practical usability testing sessions
- what type of testing is most suitable for your project
- what parts of the system or site you should focus on testing
- how many participants to involve, who to involve and how to recruit them
- how to write scenarios that participants understand and are motivated to do
- how to identify key usability issues
- how to resolve the usability problems that are identified during the testing
- how to include usability testing in your projects
Day 2:
- the importance of balancing the requirements of users and business
- techniques to gather information about the needs of your site visitors
- the many ways that information can be organised
- how to create a classfication or taxonomy for your site
- the importance of good labelling to help people find what they need
