Half-day in-house workshop

Website, intranets and other online applications are increasingly been seen as strategic business tools and to meet these increased expectations, 'best practice' approaches must be followed.

Design processes that involve effective information architecture (IA) and usability techniques are critical to delivering sites and application that meets both business and user needs.

This half-day in-house workshop will expose your team to some of the latest ideas and approaches being explored in the fields of usability and information architecture. The current thinking in the industry will be summarised, introducing practical ideas to use in the workplace.

A diverse range of topics will be covered, offering an overview of the current approaches and techniques, with pointers to further resources and reading.

This in-house workshop explores the following topics:

  • Faceted classification
Faceted classification can be used to improve browsing of large content repositories, and this will be explored through examples and discussions.
  • Shape of information
Readers identify the 'shape' of information before they read the content. Learn how this can help to design information that is easier to understand.

  • Card-based classification evaluation
A practical demonstration of usability testing and information architecture without building a site.

  • Personas
Personas communicate information about your users and help your team remain focused on real user goals during the design process.

This in-house workshop will help your team to keep up with this important and evolving field, and will be relevant to anyone managing websites, intranets or other large information systems.

Who should attend

Anyone with a professional interest or involvement in usability or information architecture should attend this workshop, including:
  • website designers
  • intranet managers
  • managers of other large information systems
  • visual designers
  • business analysts
  • technical writers

While some level of usability and information architecture knowledge will be assumed, this in-house workshop will be suitable for all levels of experience with techniques that will be of value to your team in their daily work.
