Intranet Planning Day

4 June 2008
Hyatt Hotel, Canberra

Intranets must succeed. Hidden behind the firewall, however, intranet teams often find it hard to identify the best practices and latest thinking. This workshop on intranet strategy provides practical insights into managing intranets, including the unique '6x2 methodology'.

Presented by James Robertson, recognised as an international expert on creating and managing intranets, this workshop has been run across the globe. Don't miss this opportunity to hear James share his thoughts on making intranets work.

[Upcoming Seminars]

To be successful, the intranet must become a valuable business tool that delivers benefits for the organisation as a whole.

While many organisations have an intranet, all too often they are struggling due a lack of resources, and may not be much more than a publishing platform for static information, or a "dumping ground for second hand documents".

This one day workshop provides intranet teams with an opportunity to focus exclusively on the strategy and planning aspects of intranets. Current directions will be challenged, and new techniques and approaches provided to deliver a more effective site.

Topics covered during the day:

  • 6x2 methodology for intranets
  • model of intranet evolution, explaining why intranets are the way they are
  • what is your ideal intranet?
  • practical techniques for identifying staff needs
  • positioning the intranet as a business tool
  • leading successful intranets and gaining management support
  • redefining the role of intranet teams

The core of the workshop is the 6x2 methodology for intranets, a unique methodology for planning and growing intranets. This workshop will redefine what it means to have a successful intranet, drawing on real-life successes (and challenges) across many organisations.

By the end of the day, you will come away inspired and enthusiastic, ready to tackle your intranet challenges!

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is designed for intranet teams in the public and private sector, and it draws upon experiences common across many organisations. Experienced intranet managers, having already learnt what doesn’t work, will gain particular value from this workshop.

Organisations planning on redesigning their intranet, or creating a new intranet from scratch, will also benefit from the planning methodology.

Past experience has shown that it can also be very valuable to bring along several participants, to provide an opportunity to jointly work on approaches for your organisation.

6x2 methodology

The 6x2 methodology is unique to Step Two Designs, and is designed to give intranet teams a new way of manging and growing their sites. The methodology identifies the functionality that will be delivered in the next six months, as well as sketching out the activities for the following six months (thus the ‘6x2’).

The planning process starts with identifying the criteria for selecting activities and functionality, along with the constraints that impact on the intranet (and the intranet team).

A scoping technique is then used to determine what will be delivered. This allows a clear project plan to be developed, along with an executive briefing and communications message.

This workshop provides an opportunity to put the methodology into practice on a common intranet scenario. Participants will then be ready to confidently make use of it when they get back to their organisations.

What others have said

"The most practical, sensible, nicely communicated workshop around intranets I’ve ever attended."

"All good, broaches many schools of thought and opens many boxes – but provides plans for solutions."

"Very practical, ideas that can be put into practice. James, this has been a great workshop."

"Outstanding. Extremely relevant. Very practical."

"Content useful and thought provoking. Provides many ‘tools’ to take back to the workplace."

"Made me focus on taking action now on small activities with impact, rather than on large activities without impact."

About the Leadership Series

We have been working for many years on building up a huge body of knowledge in our chosen fields, including a wide range of innovative models and approaches. The Leadership Series of workshops are designed to share this depth of experience, with the goal of building up team expertise and knowledge within organisations.

These workshops draw upon many case studies and examples to provide real-world solutions to the most difficult challenges.

These workshops are different to those run by generic training or conference companies. Workshops are run by the actual thought-leaders, responsible for developing new ideas and insights. Our whole team also hold nationally accredited training qualifications.

These workshops are not about us talking at the front of the room and 'death by Powerpoint'. Hands-on activities are used to explore key techniques and issues. Time is also allocated to explore specific questions and issues raised by participants.

The Leadership Series of workshops are constantly evolving to reflect the latest thinking in the field. We are confident that you will find many new ideas that can be put into practice in your organisation.
