Product documentation ‘search & attach’

Chr. Hansen’s ‘search and attach’ system allows users to search for essential product documentation on all of the company’s products. The company has over 100,000 documents spread over three systems, all of which can be searched by various different criteria.
Users can preview documents, add them into a basket, and then download or email them to customers and suppliers directly from the system. The facility is also available to selected third parties.
Employee Essentials – personalised toolbar
NSW DEC (Australia)
The NSW Department of Education and Communities has delivered a
personalised toolbar called Essentials on its intranet, which links to relevant apps and content for over 140,000 teachers and staff.
With targeted links relevant to different groups based on robust user research, the toolbar can be easily customised. An attractive and easy-to-use design has meant over 100,000 staff have already done so. Users can view the icons on the toolbar from every page, and also share links with other staff at the same school.

Social intranet with extensive gamification
Enter (Russia)
Russian retail startup Enter has launched a motivational game called OlimpiaDA! which is helping to create a unique company culture among employees. This is driving an ambitious expansion plan. Enter’s Jive intranet is the key system for managing all aspects of the game.
Employees receive points for a wide range of different online and offline behaviours including ratings from employees against company values, contributions to an ideation platform, social games and employee referrals. Prizes come in the form of activity-based holidays rather than material goods.
Open source intranet platform
Government of the Netherlands
Pleio is an open source intranet and collaboration platform which can be used by Dutch government agencies and other public sector bodies in the Netherlands. You can create intranets and other project spaces to communicate internally, across different organisations and with citizens.
This platform is free to use, and is partly run by volunteers. Organisations can develop specific functionality as long as they release this back to the Pleio community so it can be used by others.
LessonTrack – lessons learned system
Weston Solutions, Inc. (US)
Weston Solutions has created a lessons learned system accessible from the intranet, as well as from within various different systems. LessonTrack surfaces ‘lessons learned’ captured within the firm’s project management system and CRM database. It can then deliver them in subject context via the intranet, through defined subject-specific widgets.
In addition users can search for lessons by different criteria, add extra lessons of their own, ‘like’ or comment on lessons, and subscribe to updates.

Commercial dashboard
Urbis (Australia)
Urbis has created a commercial dashboard which displays key financial data in a series of graphs, charts and dials. Data can be viewed for the business as a whole, or for different divisions. Rolled out to all Urbis directors, the dashboard also incorporates the ability to access various reports, and is already making users more aware of key financial data and encouraging more commercial behaviour.
Safety and compliance process
Scott Corporation (Australia)

Allowing truck drivers to scan paper forms relating to vehicle damage which are then stored directly in SharePoint, trigger workflows, and can be viewed by government auditors, has dramatically improved efficiency. Applying security levels and content expiry processes to other sensitive documents has had a similar effect.

mLink mobile intranet
The Judge Group (US)
Judge Group has delivered a mobile version of their intranet called mLink. Powered by HTML5, mLink can be viewed on tablets and smartphones.
The project has been delivered with very little budget, but has remained focused on user need. It includes access to core intranet content such as news and HR data, as well as to EDGE, the firm’s customised
applicant tracking system.
