Very true, this an alet or push mechanism that many content management systems provide. I am currently developing an iphone application to deliver alerts directly to mobile users through the organisation. You can sign up to deliver any notifications from available car spaces to patient heart rates to a doctors.

Hi Stefanie,

Yes I could see that working. We're talking again about the push mechanism, the alert. I'm not sure you'd really need Twitter for it. An SMS system, for example, could do the same thing in that scenario. But maybe Twitter would be cheaper and easier to implement.

VERY interesting point of view, and I fully agree that it is rather difficult to convince bosses of 'social media type' tools for intranets. I like your example where a Twitter-like app would help.
I have heard of another one that may be interesting: Technical controls of e.g. a complex production line could be connected to the internet and use Twitter (truly the REAL Twitter) to alerst e.g. the main technician, production head etc. when something goes wrong. So they could get that on their mobile - much quicker than to wait for someone from the tech control team in charge finding out, and calling manually. Sometimes, these one or tow minutes are quite critical. And the accounts could be setup so that only the people relevant can follow them. Sounds like an idea?
