What makes a Wiki?

Gadgetopia has written a post asking: what makes a wiki? To quote:

Way back in the day, when wikis were new and I was messing around with early versions of Twiki (we had to GlueWordsTogether to make links…), wikis had some prety clear differentiators.

I agree that the lines between wikis and content management systems are getting very blurry now, which is a good thing. I explored the same subject from the other end, looking at what intranet CMS’s can learn from wikis.

I think that wikis (like blogs) are transitional technologies, more interesting for the associated changes in mindset than for the technology itself…
