It’s been a while since I’ve posted a photo to my blog. Mostly it’s because photography has been forced to take a step back due to work commitments (it’s been a busy time!).

Still, the current round of international events has given me a few free weekends for a spot of photography.

The canals are an obvious (if stereotypical) feature of the Dutch landscape. Still, I love the canal-side restaurants in Utrecht, set into the walls themselves. Taken from 37 images, stitched together. Best viewed large.

(For those who are here just for serious posts, all the photographs are clearly titled as such, and so are easily skipped over.)

Yesterday we drove from Prague down to Cesky Krumlov, in South Bohemia. This is a picture-perfect town, perching on rocky outcrops and hemmed in by the winding river.

This is a HDR (high dynamic range) image, with 9 images combined together to give a hyper-realistic effect.

Panorama: From the pews to the frescoes

I’ve now spent several days in Prague, in the Czech Republic, taking a holiday at long last. This is a tremendously beautiful city, even when it’s packed with tourists.

This was the second major church we’ve been into, and it’s a beauty! Seemed like the perfect opportunity to try out an experimental panorama technique, with six hand-held photographs stitched into a single image.

(You’ll want to view this nice and large.)

I found time to take some photographs when in Miami for the IA Summit in April. Of course, no trip would be complete without a stroll down Miami Beach, and I had some fun taking this panorama. (Best viewed larger or extremely large.)

Spent the weekend up in the Hunter Valley, and set aside a night to stand in the darkness in an deserted field (as one does!). I “painted” this abandoned shed with a million candle power light (with a red filter) to create this otherworldly look. (This is a ten minute exposure, no digital editing.)

This is a photo I took late at night in the cemetary at the top of Wellington city centre. A beautiful and haunting place, even after they put the road through the middle of it. The highlight was created by a small LED torch I happened to be carrying.

By the way, I’m posting this photo from my new Flickr account, which I’ll be using to share just my best work. My old account will still be in place, and you can follow this for my work-in-progress shots.

I’m currently in Miami, speaking at the IA Summit. It’s been great to finally get some sun, after rain in Sydney for so long.

This is a stitching of the art deco waterfront along South Beach. These photos are a lot of fun to take, although it does leave my laptop crunching numbers for several hours…

I was very pleased to find a space invader when I was recently in Paris. Just walking around the street, and there it was, perched on a wall in a nondescript location. Very exciting!

What is all this about? There is an artist called “Invader” who puts up these novel forms of grafitti, not just throughout Paris, but internationally. You can read more about him on Wikipedia.
